About this Report
This report provides data and insights into trends that allow you to estimate the addressable market for IoT technologies in terms of the number of developers using these technologies. The report looks at the global number of industrial internet of things (IIoT) and consumer electronics (CE) developers and forecasts the population change through Q1 2024. We report on the number of people who identify as professionals or amateurs, we provide population estimates for different regions, explore some of the current trends and emerging technologies in IoT and provide an outlook for the near term. Methodology
To estimate the number of developers, we use an independent, bottom-up methodology. The data we use to arrive at the estimates in this report comes from:
1. Reliably measured numbers of developers or direct indicators of their activity: GitHub accounts and repositories, Stack Overflow accounts, and employment statistics from the USA and the European Union.
2. Our proprietary developer survey data, i.e., measured developer behaviour. For this report, we used data from 7,000+ IIoT and 8,600+ CE developers across six consecutive surveys.
