About this Report
Game development has garnered widespread interest, with one in every four developers globally involved in game development. In this report, we take a look at the landscape of game developers. We begin by assessing the demographics of game developers by looking at where they are located and their experience. Next, we take a deeper look at the professional life of game developers, analysing how they are professionally involved in the sector and the type of studios they work for. In chapter three, our attention turns to the choices and decisions made by game developers for their projects. Here, we delve into the range of technologies, game engines, and programming languages they use. Finally, in chapter four, we examine the platforms they target and the spectrum of games they create.
Methodology
The report is based on data collected from nearly 5,000 self-identified game developers in the 24th edition of our Developer Nation survey, which ran between December 2022 and February 2023.
