About this Report
The Embedded Developer Population Forecast 2023 investigates the underlying trends behind the growth of the embedded developer population across the world. In the report, we explore how many embedded developers there are globally, how many are professionals, what types of organisations they work for, and where they are located. We then go on to estimate the sizes of embedded developer communities that use specific tools for their projects, such as programming languages and operating systems (OS). Finally, we explore industry growth insights, as well as what embedded developers are working on.

Methodology
To count developers, we use an independent, bottom-up methodology. The data we use toarrive at the estimates in this report comes from:
1. Reliably measured numbers of developers or direct indicators of their activity: Github accounts and repos, Stack Overflow accounts, and employment statistics from the USA and the European Union.
2. Our proprietary developer survey data, i.e.measured developer behaviour. For this report, we use data from 8,200+ embedded developers across four consecutive surveys.
